About

Gyuchul Moon is a Sound researcher / New Media artist who works at the interface between Science, Music, and Media art. His project seeks to evoke the imagination of sounds intertwined with humans and non-humans, objects and organisms, natural and artificial, and implemented with contemporary technology. His work also contemplates how the status between equilibrium and instability, the non-linear dynamics found in Nature, can be transmuted into musical expressions. He delves into the physical embodiment of sounds based on questions about sound, technology, and system theory and their entanglement.

He pushes the boundaries of sound installation and musical form by bridging music and sound with alternative technological perspectives underlying generative forms that use self-regulation, self-organizing principles, and AI. He draws upon the possibility of organic forms of compositions.

He presented his composition / audiovisual works at ZKM (Karlsruhe, DE), Sonic Acts Festival (Amsterdam, NL), MUTEK (Japan + Mexico), MUTEK (Montreal_virtual_expo, CA), SXSW (Austin, US), WeSA (Seoul, KR), PRECTXE (Bucheon, KR), and his works selected conferences NIME(2024, Utrecht), AIMC(2023, Brighton). He presented his works in exhibitions at the Sejong Center (Seoul, KR) and Art Center Nabi (Seoul, KR). and he was selected for residency programs at Künstlerhaus Bethanien(Berlin, DE), ZKM(Karlsruhe, DE) and EMS(Elektronmusikstudion, Stockholm, SE).
